10 Ways To Really Save On The Electric Bill
Winter’s here, so it’s time to think about how we could save money on the electric bill (and energy bill).
Here are my Top 10 Winter Saving Tips…
How To Save On Electric
ONE: CHECK IF YOU QUALIFY FOR FINANCIAL SUPPORT
You may be eligible for financial support to help pay your energy bill.
In the UK there’s a range of benefits for those in need. The .GOV website is where you’ll find the information you need. Benefits include:
• Cold Weather Payment
• Warm Home Discount Scheme
• Winter Fuel Payment
• National Concessionary Fuel Scheme
TWO: CENTRAL HEATING
Take a few minutes to work out when the best time would be to have the central heating on.
Is the family at home when it’s on? Do you need hot water when it’s heated?
Managing the central heating can help reduce the energy bill by limiting the number of times it comes on a day.
THREE: HEAVY CURTAINS
If you’ve got large windows, one way to keep the heat in is to invest in some heavy curtains.
You might even find something suitable at a charity shop.
FOUR: DRAFT STOPPERS
Draft stoppers are another way to retain the heat.
Be sure to air out rooms in the day. Buildings need circulation, and you don’t want to encourage surface damp.
FIVE: BED HEATER / ELECTRIC BLANKET
During the cold winter nights, you could stay warm without the central heating.
The most important place to heat is your bed.
A bed heater uses very little energy, can be purchased on a budget and can keep you toasty during the coldest nights.

SIX: WEAR A HAT
As with any old fashioned, common sense idea, scientist have been working hard to test this under lab conditions.
Myth or not, I feel the difference when I’m wearing a hat.
My head is warmer.
If you’re cold at home, put a hat on! I’m sure it will help retain body-heat.
SEVEN: WEAR MORE LAYERS OF CLOTHING
As the seasons change, sometimes we’re a little late in getting the winter clothes out.
Wearing an extra t-shirt, or putting on a warm jumper is a great way to save money on the electric bill.
EIGHT: THERMAL MUG TO KEEP TEA WARM
Save on kettle heating costs by getting a thermal mug.
They do keep teas warmer for longer, insuring you don’t have to put the kettle on again because it’s gone cold.
NINE: GET A SMALL HOT WATER BOTTLE
We work from home, and our small hot water bottle is used throughout the winter months.
Whenever we heat the kettle, we pour the left over water into the small hot water bottle.
It’s a great way to save on heating costs during the winter months.
TEN: GET MOVING
A great way to warm up the human body, is to move the human body.
A light workout can get the blood circulating, and can warm you up from the inside, out.
